Combine a fantastic glacier helicopter tour with dog mushing for a once in a lifetime experience! Board a helicopter for a flightseeing tour over lush rainforests, deep blue crevices and glacier carved peaks en route to the dog sled camp on the Mendenhall Glacier. Here the professional mushers and Alaskan sled dogs will have you driving the team or relaxing in the sled as you take in the awe inspiring scenery.
Or opt to go for a hike on the glacier, witnessing ice crevices, flowing rivers and crisp glacier lakes. All gear will be provided.
Delight in Juneau's breathtaking natural scenery as you fly high above lush green Tongass National Forest before trekking across a massive glacier on foot. Embark on a dynamic 30-minute helicopter ride over sprawling Juneau Icefield, seeing rain forests, alpine ridges, and striking mountain peaks along the way. Land on the 12-mile long Mendenhall Glacier, a protected recreation area, and strap up glacier boots for a walk around the ice, where you can snap scenic photos.

Saxman Native Village offers guests a totem treat at their unique Village Carving Center. It is here that you will learn about the expertise needed to be a master totem carver. Be amazed by Tlingit tribal members who perform colorful traditional dances for you dressed in complete Tlingit regalia. Next, join in on the hilarity and fun as real lumberjacks show off their forestry talents and battle for the prestigious title of “Bull of the Woods.”
HOONAH SIGHTSEEING & TRIBAL DANCE PERFORMANCE - IC17
Hoonah is many things: a lively fishing community, an old logging town and the world’s largest Tlingit village. Your local guide will describe how this coastal community came to be when the rapid glacial advance of the Little Ice Age forced the clans from their ancestral home in Glacier Bay. Learn about life in Hoonah and how the people rebuilt when the village was destroyed by fire during WWII. Upon returning to Icy Strait Point, you will gather at the Heritage Center Native Theater for the Tribal Dance and Cultural Legends performance.
STREAM FISHING - IC35
Discover why the wild streams of Icy Strait Point make for a freshwater fisherman’s dream destination. Travel 10 miles from Hoonah to the banks of pristine Game Creek. Receive expert instruction, hip boots and all the gear and tackle necessary for a fantastic day of catch-and-release spin casting (or fly fishing for those with experience). Depending on the season, expect to reel in Dolly Varden, char, cutthroat trout, steelhead trout, and pink and silver salmon.
ATV EXPEDITION - IC12
Begin your adventure with a guided tour of the Tlingit village of Hoonah before
arriving at your departure site. Once there, engage in an exhilarating ride through rugged hills and dense rainforest trails. Admire Alaska’s majestic snow-capped peaks and Icy Strait waters as you search for breaching whales and soaring bald eagles.
ZIPRIDER- WORLD'S LONGEST ZIPLINE - IC18
5,330 feet long with a 60 mph maximum speed this family friendly adventure gives you 1.5 minutes of ride time! At 1,300 ft above sea level you will sit in a special harness seat and await your launch. During your ride, witness sweeping views of Port Frederick, Icy Strait and your cruise ship far below. Your ZipRide concludes with a brake-activated landing on the beach back at Icy Strait Point.
KAYAK ADVENTURE - IC23
Explore the sparkling, calm waters of Port Frederick on a guided kayak adventure. Set off from the beach at Icy Strait Point in a stable, two-person wilderness kayak. Follow your safety-certified guide on a paddle along the Hoonah waterfront en route to protected waters where bald eagles soar and humans can rarely follow. Keep an eye out for humpback whales that feed along the very same route or the killer whales that prowl these waters.
Your brisk hovercraft flies across the water to reach Taku Glacier, the largest and only advancing glacier flowing from the Juneau Icefield. Your journey aboard the high-speed water jet powered catamaran includes sightings of marine wildlife, reminders of Juneau’s gold mining era and cliffs full of nesting seabirds. You’ll navigate a maze of sandbars before landing at the glacier where you’ll spend 30 minutes exploring its dynamic environment.
• Hovercraft: Climb aboard a high-speed amphibious vehicle and travel over water, ice, sandbars and grassland.
• Scenic ride: See reminders of Juneau’s gold mining era, seabirds nesting, whales, sea lions, eagles and other marine wildlife
• Taku Glacier: Learn how the largest glacier in the icefield is slowly bulldozing its way across the valley
Begin with a drive past downtown Juneau en route to the Rainforest Gardens. Join your forest guide aboard a covered shuttle for a mile-long, narrated journey into the heart of the rainforest. The Mendenhall Glacier – Juneau’s star attraction - is your final destination. This massive river of ice is the largest, most rugged glacier accessible by road.
