Pair an Inside Passage experience with a land tour

If matching one of these cruises with a land tour we are happy to help you reserve extra hotel stays and exciting optional excursions to fill the time between your land tour and the start of your cruise. For most land tours, the cruise will begin the following day and extra overnights/activities are not required.

Itinerary

Day 1SITKA

Arrive in Sitka – the ceremonial site for the United States’ 1867 purchase of Alaska from Russia. A John Hall’s Alaska representative greets you at the airport for your transfer to your accommodation for the evening. The remainder of the day is open for a leisurely stroll on the Sitka Sea Walk or along the harbor, exploring the shops and sights around town, or taking in optional activities.

Overnight: Aspen Suites Hotel, Sitka

Day 2SITKA

Sitka is a special place. Visits to the Fortress of The Bear – an educational rescue center for orphaned bears, and the famous Alaska Raptor Center – a healing and rehabilitation center for injured avian patients, highlight the community’s unique relationship with nature. At a traditional-style clan house, immerse yourself in the rich Tlingit culture with authentic drumming and Native dance performances.

Day 3JUNEAU

This morning set sail for Juneau, Alaska’s capital city. Just outside the city sits shimmering Mendenhall Glacier, and a chance to hike, stop in the visitor center, or simply take in the glacial views. Next up is a tour at Glacier Gardens, a unique botanical garden set in the temperate rainforest of the Tongass National Forest. The rest of the day is free for a taste of lively downtown Juneau.

Day 4GLACIER BAY NATIONAL PARK

Today is full of surprises on a private small vessel in Glacier Bay National Park, offering a far superior experience in one of the world’s largest protected areas. Near the park’s entrance, sail past South Marble Island – easily spotted by rowdy sea lions, Gulls, Guillemots, and puffins frolicking about and perched on this rocky knob. Deeper in America’s crowning national park view tidewater glaciers, icy blues, and icebergs. Keep watch for bears, whales, moose, eagles, and mountain goats.

Day 5SKAGWAY

Rich with marine life, today, cruise one of the world’s deepest and longest fjords, the Lynn Canal. After docking in Skagway explore historic buildings along the town’s main street or head to the Gold Rush cemetery. Later, tour Skagway’s most infamous saloon, the Red Onion – built in 1897 and in its heyday one of the finest brothels in town. There is time for optional activities like riding the rails to the White Pass Summit or panning for gold. Take in dinner before sailing back to Juneau.

Today’s treat is Icy Strait Point, an Alaska Native-owned port on Chichagof Island. Take in lunch and ride the Transporter and Mountaintop Gondolas for majestic views. Tour the cannery, enjoy a cultural dance performance, and as a special farewell, dinner is a private Alaska-style feast. Sail through rich feeding grounds of humpback and orca whales. Each season they beeline it here to feed on krill, zooplankton, and herring. Camera at the ready, keep your eyes on the horizon as you return to Juneau.
