Day 2KATMAI NATIONAL PARK

Over the next two days, the group splits in half and flies via small aircraft to a different national park each day – Katmai and Lake Clark. If it’s Katmai day, enjoy a flightseeing tour to Katmai National Park, arriving via floatplane at the iconic Brooks Camp leading to Brooks Falls. From an elevated viewing platform, witness brown bears feeding on salmon on the edge of the falls. During salmon season, as many as 50 brown bears reside along the mile-and-a-half-long Brooks River.

Day 3LAKE CLARK NATIONAL PARK

Due to road accessibility into Lake Clark National Park & Preserve, travel requires flying aboard a small aircraft. This day trip features a guided boat tour, hiking, and a chance to visit the Lake Clark National Park visitor center. Lake Clark preserves the ancestral homelands of the Dena’ina people in this rich wilderness of volcanoes, mountains, alpine tundra and glacial lakes. Spend a few hours exploring the area before flying back to Anchorage.

Day 4WRANGELL-ST. ELIAS NATIONAL PARK

Travel the Glenn Highway before boarding a small plane on a flightseeing trip into the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Land in the old mining towns (and Alaska’s most famous ghost town) of Kennicott-McCarthy and transfer to quaint Kennicott Glacier Lodge – with views of Kennicott Glacier from the porch.

*Accommodations may include a shared bath. The lodge was chosen for its glacier views, quality of cuisine, and service, which cannot be duplicated elsewhere in town.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5KENNECOTT MINES

Explore the Kennecott Mines today, a National Historic Landmark. Discover the mine’s outbuildings, including the historic leaching and power plant. Entrance to all 14 levels of the mine is dependent upon the National Park Service, a guide will inform visitors of what to expect. This afternoon, catch up on a little R&R or explore at leisure.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6FAIRBANKS & TRAIL BREAKER KENNEL

After a 40-minute flight over the Wrangell Mountains, return to the outskirts of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park to board the luxury motorcoach and continue north on the Richardson Highway, Alaska’s first highway, to Fairbanks. Follow the Trans-Alaska Pipeline along a section fewer than 5% of visitors get to experience. Stop in Delta Junction before reaching the golden city of Fairbanks. End the day at Trail Breaker Kennel – home of the late four-time Iditarod champion Susan Butcher – for dinner, a presentation on The Iditarod, and time with the pups.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7GATES OF THE ARCTIC NATIONAL PARK

Early this morning, cross the Arctic Circle while traveling to the Alaska Native village of Anaktuvuk Pass, located in the Gates of the Arctic National Park. After the visit, fly to the northernmost Iñupiat village of Utqiaġvik (formerly Barrow). Learn about this arctic coastal settlement, meet locals, see the famous whalebone arch, and dip a toe – or try a full polar bear plunge – in the Arctic Ocean before returning to Fairbanks.

Day 8ALASKA RAILROAD & DENALI NATIONAL PARK

After a busy seven days, it’s time to relax. This morning, board the Alaska Railroad’s glass-domed GoldStar railcars and enjoy breakfast with a view on the journey towards Denali National Park. Upon arrival, board the bus for a journey 92 miles through the incredible scenery and wildlife of Denali National Park to reach Kantishna, the home for two evenings. Denali Backcountry Lodge is situated at the end of the Park Road, a once mining road, alongside the river for a quaint, unique and ultimate Denali National Park experience.
