Day 1ANCHORAGE

Welcome to the metropolitan city of Anchorage, Alaska! A John Hall’s Alaska representative greets you on arrival and escorts you to your luxury accommodations for the evening. Anchorage has much to offer if you wish to explore. Dinner is at your leisure.

Day 2NOME

Fuel up with breakfast, then catch your flight to Nome. Situated on the Bering Sea at the tip of the Seward Peninsula, Nome holds the title of being the most famous Gold Rush town in all of Alaska. In the last great gold stampede of the west, fortune seekers flocked from all over the world for the golden nuggets found for miles along the beaches. Nome is also the finish line of the famed Iditarod Race. Visit the Carrie M. McLain Memorial Museum and learn about this crossroads of history, cultures, and continents.

Day 3NOME & ANCHORAGE

Before departing the frontier town of Nome, take a stroll along the beach or around town, then head to the airport. Enjoy the short flight back to Anchorage, the views are spectacular! Back in the city, there is free time in the afternoon to go exploring on your own, take in a museum, shop, or simply relax at the hotel.

Day 4ALASKA RAILROAD & DENALI NATIONAL PARK

This morning, board the glass-domed cars of the Alaska Railroad. Experience luxury GoldStar service with breakfast served during your journey. Upon arrival in Talkeetna, enjoy lunch in town before boarding the motorcoach for a scenic drive to the gates of Denali National Park. Over the next two evenings, relax in the wilderness at Denali Cabins.

Day 5DENALI NATIONAL PARK

The sun rises early in Alaska, and chances are high you will too! There is a lot to squeeze in today. Travel by sightseeing bus ride 42 miles deep into the outback of Denali National Park and Preserve. During the drive be on the lookout for moose, caribou, Dall sheep, wolves, grizzly bears, and of course Denali. After returning to the gates of the park, stop by the Denali Visitor Center and enjoy time on your own.

Day 6DREAM A DREAM KENNEL & KNIK RIVER

Get an early start aboard your motorcoach and travel to the heart of mushing country for a visit to Dream ∙a∙ Dream, a working sled dog kennel. At a private presentation on dog mushing, learn what it takes to prep for a race like the Iditarod and spend time with the pups. After lunch and puppy time, continue your journey south into the Mat-Su Valley – a secluded, hidden gem nestled in the Chugach Mountains. The Knik, a regional band of Athabascans were the earliest known inhabitants of the valley.

Day 7KNIK RIVER

Enjoy a warm meal in the lodge, then step outside for a day of exquisite wilderness. Surrounded by vast forests and mountains, take in the vista from the deck of your cabin and observe helicopters landing on the beach. Tucked along Knik Arm and the Knik River – amid mountains, glaciers, wilderness, rivers, and wildlife – there is plenty to do. An included tour gets you up close to nature. Popular with moose and other wildlife, keep cameras and binoculars at the ready today!

Day 8KODIAK

After a bountiful breakfast in the lodge, board your motorcoach for a ride along the Glenn Highway National Scenic Byway to Anchorage. Following a path carved by ancient glaciers, keep your camera at hand – there is beauty everywhere you point it! Enjoy a luncheon before your flight to Kodiak. This friendly fishing town was settled in the 18th century by subjects of the Russian crown, although archeological evidence shows Alutiiq natives have called the area home for at least 7,000 years.

Day 9KODIAK WILDLIFE REFUGE & KODIAK BEARS

A habitat of mountains, alpine meadows, wetlands, spruce forests, and grassland, the Kodiak Wildlife Refuge is home to an estimated 3.500 bears. Take a flightseeing tour over the Katmai Volcanoes and glaciers, and witness giant Kodiak brown bears – one of the two largest bears in existence – feast on salmon in the wild! Housed in a 200-year-old National Historic Landmark building, a visit to the Kodiak History Museum (formerly Baranov Museum) showcases Kodiak’s rich history.

Day 10FORT ABERCROMBIE & ANCHORAGE

On the cliffs above Monashka Bay sits Fort Abercrombie. Built by the U.S. Army in 1941 to defend Naval Air Station Kodiak, today the old navy base is the largest Coast Guard base in the country. Explore the trails and World War II ruins on a walking tour. Back in Kodiak, a city tour explores its Russian history. Rivaling anywhere in Alaska for whales, keep watch offshore for fin, minke, and humpbacks. Late afternoon, fly back to Anchorage and this evening, enjoy a Farewell Dinner with your newfound friends.

Arranging Your Flights

LAND: This tour begins and ends in Anchorage, Alaska. On Day 1, flights should arrive in Anchorage by 6pm; early check-in cannot be guaranteed before 4pm. On Day 11, flights may depart Anchorage after 8am.
